TUESDAY RESULTS – November 30

(basketball)

(DENISON) -- Le Mars used an 18-0 run midway through the second half to crack open their season opener and the Bulldogs went on to post a 78-59 victory over Denison-Schleswig Tuesday night in Denison.  Le Mars led 51-41 with 53-seconds to play in the third quarter and cushioned the lead to 57-41 on a 6-0 run to close out the quarter.  The Dogs opened the fourth quarter with a 12-0 run to open up a 28-point lead.  Austin Homan led the way to victory with 27 points, collecting 21 of the Bulldogs 30 first half points.  Senior Paxton Strub scored 15 of his 16 points after halftime and Kyan Ludwig added 11 for Le Mars.  The Bulldogs return to action on December 7th in their home opener against Storm Lake.

Gehlen Catholic head football coach Tony Gunter has been named the Sioux City Journal's Siouxland Coach of the Year for 2010.  Gehlen lost to top-rated Madrid in the Class A semifinals at the UNI-Dome last month to finish at 11-and-2.

Le Mars finished fifth in the Humboldt Invitational, won by Southeast Polk.  C.J. Singer (125#) and Zach Reed (145#) finished second for Le Mars while Mason Cook (119#) and Chris Stevenson (285#) took third.

(basketball)

(MARCUS) -- Erica Dreckman canned a pair of free throws with seven seconds left and then watched as three Gehlen shots missed the mark under the basketball as time expired and Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn held on to spoil Gehlen's season opener 50-48 in Marcus Friday night.  Dreckman finished with 17 points for M-M-C and Kayla Foresman led all scorers with 24.  Amber Timmins led Gehlen with 15 points while Steph Rohe added 13.

In the boys game, Gehlen used a 23-0 run during an eight-minute stretch to open a 25-point lead enroute to a 54-37 victory over Marcus/M-C.  Trevor Bouma led the Gehlen scoring with 17 points, hitting all nine free throw attempts.  Neal Bunt had 15 to lead the Eagles.
