Photography is the focus at the Arts Center
(LE MARS) The Le Mars Arts Center will soon be hosting a photography seminar for people looking to learn more about the logistics and art of picture taking. Kathy Moore, from the Le Mars Arts Council, says the seminar was organized because so many people use the medium.
The seminar will be held over two Saturdays. Saturday February 19th will include instruction from Jo Alberda of the Sioux County Camera Club and Scott Bricker of Le Mars. Alberda will be discussing how to use photography to document life through a journalistic approach as well as the artistic aspect of picture taking. Bricker will be sharing insights on contests and his award winning photography.
Bricker says he likes to exhibit at fairs because it helps him better his skills as a photographer.
He started taking pictures six or seven years ago and is self taught. Bricker says he likes to shoot anything and everything except people. However, his current favorite photo that he has taken is a self-portrait, well...kind of.
The picture earned him a blue ribbon at the Iowa State Fair in 2010. Bricker has earned 5 ribbons at the state fair and 3 honorable mentions out of 13 entries. You might be saying... so what? Well the total number of entries at the State Fair level in 2010 was over 4,800.
