Akron-Westfield 18 Gehlen Catholic 1, six innings
Estherville/Lincoln Central 11 Le Mars 1, six innings
(LE MARS) -- Top-rated Akron-Westfield exploded for twelve runs in the sixth inning Monday night against Gehlen Catholic and the Westerners remained unbeaten in War Eagle Conference with an 18-1, six-inning win over the Lady Jays. A-W turned a 3-1 pitcher's duel into a rather one-sided affair by scoring 15 runs in their final two at-bats. Sarah Parkinson capped the 12-run, 17-batter sixth inning with a grandslam. It was her second home run of the game and she finished with six RBI's and five runs scored. Pitcher Brandi Davis drove in three runs on four hits and tossed a two-hitter with ten strike outs. Steph Rohe had both of Gehlen's hits. The Westerners improve to 18-and-1 for the season and 11-and-0 in the W-E-C. Gehlen falls to 12-and-8 for the season and 6-and-3 in conference play.
(LE MARS) -- Estherville/Lincoln Central took advantage of six Le Mars errors to beat the Lady Bulldogs 11-1 in six innings Monday night in Lakes Conference softball action at the Bulldogs Complex. The win avenges a loss to Le Mars earlier this season. Eight of the eleven runs were unearned off Jordan Heidebrink. Emily Ellefson and Erica Westhoff had two hits each to lead the Lady Bulldogs' offense. Le Mars falls to 13-and-9 for the season and 5-and-3 in the Lakes Conference.
(baseball)
Gehlen Catholic 2 Akron-Westfield 1
Le Mars 13 Estherville/Lincoln Central 3, five innings
(LE MARS) -- Angel Chagolla's two-run single in the first inning held up as Gehlen edged Akron-Westfield 2-1 Monday night in War Eagle Conference baseball action at the Riverview Complex. Mitch Christoffel scattered nine hits and allowed only a second inning run to earn the victory on the mound. Gehlen is now 6-and-9 for the season and 4-and-6 in the W-E-C. Monday's game was a preview to the tournament opener for both teams next month in Akron.
(LE MARS) -- The Bulldogs erupted for eleven runs in the fifth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and Le Mars beat Estherville/Lincoln Central 13-3 in five innings Monday night in Lakes Conference baseball at the Bulldog Complex. (REMSEN) -- Remsen St. Mary's erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to extend a 5-4 lead to an 11-4 victory over Gehlen Catholic in War Eagle Conference softball action in Remsen Thursday night. The win gives the Hawks a sweep of the season series with the Lady Jays. St. Mary's had won in nine innings in Le Mars earlier this summer. Amber Timmins had four hits, including two doubles, for Gehlen. The Lady Jays fall to 12-and-9 for the season and 6-and-4 in the W-E-C.

(baseball)
Gehlen Catholic 11 Remsen St. Mary’s 9
Storm Lake 10 Le Mars 0, five innings
(REMSEN) -- Gehlen Catholic stunned the War Eagle Conference league leaders Thursday night, taking advantage of ten walks and four hit-batsmen, to beat Remsen St. Mary's 11-9 at Marv Thelen Memorial Park in Remsen. The Jays rallied from an early 4-0 deficit with ten runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a six-run lead. A grandslam by the Hawks' Zane Phillips in the fifth inning trimmed Gehlen's lead to 10-8 and a sacrifice fly by Billy Steiichen an inning later made it a one-run game going into the seventh. The Jays added a run in the top of the seventh on the Hawks' third error of the game and Mitch Christoffel wriggled out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh to secure Gehlen's upset. The win avenged two losses to the Hawks earlier this season. Angel Chagolla drove in three runs for the Jays and Phillips and Steichen combined for seven RBI's for St. Mary's. Steichen had a two-run homer in the first for Remsen St. Mary's. Gehlen improves to 7-and-9 for the season and 5-and-6 in the War Eagle Conference. St. Mary's falls to 6-and-2 in the league race and 8-and-5 for the year.
(STORM LAKE) -- Storm Lake moved into a first place tie with Le Mars in the Lakes Conference baseball race with a 10-0, five-inning victory over the Bulldogs Thursday night in Storm Lake. The Bulldogs were limited to three hits. Jeremy Bohlke had all three hits for Le Mars. Le Mars falls to 8-and-6 for the season and 7-and-1 in the Lakes Conference.
