Union Center area storm damage

Cleanup is underway at farm residences damaged by high winds and heavy rain. Metal outbuildings, hog confinements and corn show the most damage in the miles around Union Center.

Some corn fields have rows flattened by the storm and are littered with with metal. This is the scene north of the confinement site damaged southwest of Omega Avenue. The building is shown in the below.

This is the eastern side of hog confinements with damage west of Omega Avenue. A tornado warning was issued after a report from the Kingsley Fire Department. Wind gusts estimated at 65 miles an hour were reported in the Remsen area as the storm moved north.

The whirr of generators was powering homes at Union Center where trees have been jerked out of the ground or snapped off.

Bob Bohnenkamp and his wife were alerted to the storm while watching television. He looked out a window to the south.

The storm moved through about 9:30 last night. Bohnenkamp said his home was not damaged but  a metal shed for his business was blown throughout the area.

The Union Township Hall grounds are littered with uprooted and damaged trees.
