(LE MARS) -- Le Mars bumped off the co-leaders in the Lakes Conference, beating number-eight (2A) Emmetsburg 5-3 Monday night at the Bulldog Complex.  Emily Ellefson drove in a pair of runs and Ashley Phelan had two doubles and scored twice.  The Lady Bulldogs snapped a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth on an error and a squeeze bunt by Emily Pick.  Ellefson doubled home a run in the fifth and Erica Westhoff made it 5-1 with a RBI single to left.  Jayme Penrod's two-run homer in the seventh trimmed the margin to 5-3.  Emmetsburg had the tying runs on first and second before Jordan Heidebrink got a strike out and a ground out to end the game.  Heidebrink took a one-hitter into the seventh before Emmetsburg collected three more hits.  The win avenged a 1-0 loss June 8th in Emmetsburg.  The Lady Bulldogs improve to 16-and-12 with a 7-and-3 Lakes Conference mark.


(LE MARS) -- The Gehlen girls swept a War Eagle Conference twinbill from Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn, 5-4 and 8-3 Monday night at the Riverview Complex.  One of the games was make-up of an earlier postponement.  Amber Timmins threw a six-hitter in the opener to notch the pitching win while Abby Freking, Steph Rohe, Lisa Gunter and Brittany Loutch all had two hits each to lead the offense.  Rohe and Gunter each had a double and a RBI.  In game two, Alison Schnepf scattered eight hits to get the win in the pitching circle while Amber Timmins starred at the plate, collecting four hits.  She had a grandslam homer and a double for the Lady Jays.  Steph Rohe and Brittany Loutsch had two hits each in game two.  Gehlen improves to 14-and-9 for the season and 8-and-4 in the W-E-C.

(LE MARS) -- Le Mars swept the season series from Emmetsburg with an 18-7, five-inning victory Monday night at the Bulldog Complex.  The Dogs had 13 hits, two each from Eric Havey, Jeremy Bohlke, Austin Homan, Chris Eckstaine and Zach Reuter.  Eckstaine drove in four runs while Havey, Bohlke and Homan had two RBI's each.  Reuter had a home run and a double in addition to earning the win in relief of starter Hunter Rowe.  Le Mars struck for nine runs in the first inning only to surrender six to the E-Hawks in the third as Emmetsburg pulled to within 9-7.  The Bulldogs answered with four runs in the bottom of the third and five more in the fourth to end the game on the ten-run rule after four-and-a-half innings.  The win was an early 40th birthday present for coach Eckstaine.  Le Mars improves to  12-and-7 with a 9-and-1 conference mark.


(LE MARS) -- Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn scored four runs in the first inning in each half of their War Eagle Conference doubleheader with Gehlen Monday night and the Eagles swept the Jays 6-4 and 6-1 at the Riverview Complex.  One of the games was a make-up from an earlier postponement.  Gehlen was limited to just five hits in the opener with Michael Whitehead collecting two hits for the Jays.  Mitch Christoffel was roughed up for eleven hits and took the loss.  In game two, Gehlen only had three hits with Devin Groenhagen getting two of those hits.  Groenhagen took the loss on the mound for the Jays, giving up thirteen hits while striking out seven.  Gehlen tumbles to 9-and-12 for the season and 5-and-8 in conference play.

(REMSEN) -- Gehlen backed Amber Timmins' two-hit, five strike out performance in the pitching circle with a 17-hit attack Tuesday night as the Lady Jays won a make-up War Eagle Conference softball game at Remsen-Union 12-1.  Abby Freking and Abigail Krienert had three hits each with Shannon Smith, Steph Rohe, Lisa Gunter and Kayla Herbst getting two hits each.  Herbst had two RBI's and Timmins had a two-run double.  The Lady Jays are 15-and-9 for the season and 9-and-4 in the conference.


(SIOUX CENTER) -- Molly Renken threw a five-hitter and struck out ten to guide Le Mars past Sioux Center 9-3 Tuesday night in non-conference softball action at Sioux Center.  The Lady Bulldogs improve to 17-and-12 with the victory.  Erin Kommes led a 12-hit attack with three hits and two RBI's.  Emily Ellefson and Jordan Heidebrink had two hits and two RBI's each for Le Mars and Madison Heidebrink had a two-hit night with one RBI.

(SIOUX CENTER) -- Le Mars unleashed a 19-hit attack against Sioux Center Tuesday night and beat the Warriors 16-9 in a non-conference baseball match-up at Sioux Center.  Mike Ahlers had four hits for the Bulldogs and drove in a pair of runs.  Austin Homan and Chris Eckstaine had three hits each with Eckstaine recorded a pair of doubles.  Judd Herzberg had two hits.  Le Mars improves to 13-and-7 for the season.

(GRANVILLE) -- Steph Rohe and Amber Timmins combined for seven RBI's to lead Geheln Catholic to a 14-6 War Eagle Conference softball win over Spalding Catholic at Granville Wednesday night.  The Lady Jays struck for eight runs in the third inning to open up a 10-0 lead.  The Lady Spartans battled back to within 10-6 heading into the seventh inning but Gehlen scored four more runs in the seventh inning on a two-run triple by Rohe and a two-run homer by Timmins.  Rohe and Timmins led a 16-hit attack with three hits each.  Abby Freking also had three hits in the lead-off spot for the Jays.  Gehlen is now 16-and-9 for the season and 10-and-4 in the War Eagle Conference.


(LE MARS) -- Le Mars improved their season record to 18-and-12 and their Lakes Conference mark to 8-and-3 with a 5-4 softball win over Spirit Lake Wednesday night at the Bulldog Complex.  Erin Kommes had a home run and drove in two runs to lead the Lady Bulldogs.  Jordan Heidebrink had three hits to pace a nine-hit Le Mars attack.  Heidebrink got the win in the pitching circle, scattering nine hits, walking three and striking out three.

(GRANVILLE) -- Gehlen let a lead slip away in the seventh inning of their 6-5 June 3rd loss to Spalding Catholic but Wednesday night, the Jays held off a seventh inning rally by the Spartans to win 8-6 in Granville in War Eagle Conference baseball action.  Gehlen took an 8-2 lead into the seventh inning before Spalding scored four runs and had two on with one out.  Mitch Christoffel relieved starter Blake Wiltgen and got a pair of ground outs to quell the threat.  Wiltgen led the Jays at the plate with three hits while Christoffel and Devin Groenhagen had two hits each.  Christoffel had a pair of doubles and two RBI's.  Groenhagen had a double and two RBI's.  The Jays have now knocked off the two top teams in the War Eagle Conference in the past week.  Gehlen improves to 10-and-12 for the season and 6-and-8 in the W-E-C.


(LE MARS) -- Spirit Lake knocked Le Mars out of a share of first place in the Lakes Conference Wednesday night, splitting their doubleheader with the Bulldogs.  Le Mars won the first game 8-2 behind the pitching of Judd Herzberg.  Spirit Lake recovered from a 3-0 deficit in game two to beat the Dogs 13-3 as Chris Eckstaine took the loss.  Le Mars is 14-and-8 for the season and 10-and-2 in the Lakes Conference.  Storm Lake is now in sole possession of the Lakes Conference lead at 10-and-1.

(REMSEN) -- Michael Whitehead scattered eight hits and struck out ten to pitch Gehlen Catholic to an 11-3 War Eagle Conference baseball win at Remsen-Union Thursday night.  Whitehead had plenty of offensive support as Gehlen had eleven hits and scored five runs in the second inning and five more in the third to open up an early 11-0 lead.  Devin Groenhagen had three hits and two RBI's while Derek Bretey and Dylan Kneip collected two hits each.  Gehlen improves to 11-and-12 for the season and 7-and-8 in the W-E-C.

(SPENCER) – Senior pitcher Jordan Heidebrink tossed her first no-hitter of the season, allowing only four base runners to pitch Le Mars past Spencer 6-1 Friday night in Lakes Conference softball action at Spencer. Heidebrink had thrown three one-hitters this season before turning in the no-hit performance Friday. She walked two, hit a batter and the lone Bulldog error allowed the only run to score. Le Mars made at least four dazzling defensive plays behind Heidebrink to keep the no-hitter intact. Ashley Phelan and Emily Ellefson had two RBI’s each for Le Mars. Ellefson drove in the Lady Bulldogs first run on a first inning ground out and added a solo homer to lead off the the seventh inning. Phelan’s two-run single with two outs in the sixth inning extended a 3-1 lead to 5-1. Mary Kate Eckstaine and Molly Renken led a nine-hit attack with two hits each. Renken also drove in a run. The win was the fourth in a row for Le Mars as their record improves to 19-and-12 for the season and 9-and-3 in the Lakes Conference.



Le Mars 19 Spencer 10



(SPENCER) – For the second time this season Le Mars rallied from a big deficit to beat Spencer in Lakes Conference baseball. On June 13th Le Mars rallied from nine runs down to win 10-9. After spotting the Tigers a 5-0 lead in the first inning Friday night, the Bulldogs battled back to win 19-10. Le Mars trailed 10-7 going into the sixth inning but broke loose for nine runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to power their way to a Lakes Conference victory, keeping their title hopes alive. Chris Eckstaine’s two-run double tied the score in the sixth and a pair of bases-loaded walks put the Bulldogs in front to stay. Kendall Candor added a two-run single to extend the lead to 14-10. Judd Herzberg belted a three-run homer and Mike Ahlers added a solo shot to keep the Bulldogs close early in the game.  Jeremy Bohlke led a 14-hit attack with three hits while Austin Homan, Chris Eckstaine, Mike Ahlers and Hunter Rowe added two hits each. Zach Reuter went the distance for the Bulldogs, giving up eleven hits. The victory improves Le Mars to 11-and-2 in the Lakes Conference and 15-and-8 for the season.







Bishop Heelan 19 Le Mars 12


(LE MARS) -- Illinois recruit, David Kerian keyed a five-run sixth inning with a grand slam to rally Bishop Heelan to a 19-12 non-conference baseball win over Le Mars Saturday afternoon at the Bulldog Complex.  Kerian finished with three hits and six RBI's.  The Crusaders took advantage of ten walks and two hit-batsman to overcome a 10-9 deficit after four innings.  Mike Ahlers had three hits, including a home run for Le Mars.  Ahlers finished with four runs scored and two RBI's on the day.  Paul Jacobson had a three-run homer for Heelan.  The loss drops the Bulldogs to 15-and-9 for the season while Bishop Heelan improves to 24-and-9.  The two teams meet again in less than two weeks in the 3A Districts in Le Mars.
