Well Aware Health Fair
At the Floyd Valley Hospital booth, Wellness Director Kari Van Dam says people have been asking her several questions relating to influenza.
Van Dam says the Center for Disease Control hasn't seen any major outbreak of the flu as of yet, but she says they want to be prepared should the flu ever get started.
Another exhibit suggests consumers should read the label first, before selecting the product for consumption. Janet Kimm serves as a registered dietician with Floyd Valley Hospital. She explains her display.
Kim visually demonstrates the percentage of sugar contained in foods by displaying sugar cubes that correspond to the amount of sugar found in our common foods. She says foods with processed sugars should be consumed in moderation. Many times when we think of sugar in foods, diabetes comes to mind. Kim says diabetes occurs from weight gain, and not exlusively from consuming sugarly foods.
The Well Aware Community Health Fair continues until 6:30 this evening at the LeMars Convention Center.
