Barn Lost in Fire Near Remsen
(Remsen) -- The Remsen Fire Department responded to a barn fire twice, yesterday. Initially, the fire department was called to 47334 100th Street at about 11:30 a.m. then they had to return at about 3:00 p.m. Assistant Fire Chief Randy Ortmann describes the scene.
The barn was listed as a total loss, as was the Ford pick up truck that had been parked inside the barn. No injuries occurred, and Ortmann wasn't able to determine the value of the damage.
Kingsley Fire Department Fights Grass Fire
(Kingsley) -- The Kingsley Fire Department responded to a ditch grass fire call located at Highway 140 and 270th Street. The call came in at about 3:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon. Fire officials were able to get the fire under control within a half an hour.
County Supervisors Meet
(Le Mars) -- The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors have a light agenda before them for today's regularly weekly scheduled meeting. The supervisors will review the 2011-2012 budget and amend it accordingly. The supervisors are expected to set the hearing date and time for the amended budget. The county governing board will also get an update from Tom Rohe, the county engineer.
City Council To Discuss Westmar Buildings Again
(Le Mars) -- The Le Mars City Council is scheduled to meet at noon today. They will hear from the public on three separate hearings regarding the offer to purchase the Kime Science Center property, a second hearing will examine the Wastewater facility plan, and the third deals with the amendment of the 2011-2012 budget. The council is expected to act upon an offer to buy the Centennial Dormitory, as well as review the demolition bids on remaining Westmar buildings.
Chamber Selects Judy Pluth as Employee of the Month
(Le Mars) -- The Le Mars Chamber of Commerce selected its May employee of the month late yesterday afternoon. The honor was awarded to Judy Pluth of the Anytime Fitness. Pluth has been an employee of the Anytime Fitness since it first opened in December of 2009. The nomination, submitted by Tyler Aube, says Judy's strong work ethic, dedication, outgoing personality, and countless hours have been the reason Anytime Fitness has been successful in Le Mars. As our Hired to Inspire employee, Judy really does inspire our members. A community within the club has been created by Judy. She knows each member by name and is always trying to help them reach their health and fitness goals. We are proud to have Judy as our Hired to Inspire and as family.
Life Skills Tap Jeanie Trenien For Client Achievement Award
(Le Mars) -- Last evening, the Life Skills Training Center held its annual banquet and meeting. Executive Director, Don Nore offered a brief synopis of the mental health legislation that was recently adopted by the state legislature, and Rhonda Mahan, Rehabilitation Manager awarded the Client Achievement Award.
