Dreckman Creates Another Auction Quilt
(Le Mars) -- Geri Dreckman has been doing this so long she doesn't even remember how many years she's made a quilt to donate to the fair. This being either her 10th or 11th year, Gerri explains what the 2012 Quilt looks like.
The quilt uses every color of the rainbow and the triangles she talked about have a ton of detail. The flowers around the border are connected by running green vines, and the edges of the quilt are rounded.
Geri put 270 hours into this years quilt, and Mary Roder finished the quilt by using her long-arm quilting machine to put together the top, batting and backing.
This labor of love is something that Geri does simply to give back to the fair.
Her quilting career began 15 years ago, and in the beginning she made a bunch of quilts as Christmas presents. Geri said after that she wanted to keep quilting, made another masterpiece and since she didn't know what to do with it, donated it to the fair.
Geri Dreckman says her quilts bring a couple thousand dollars on average at the Fair Auction, but she is most proud of one she did a two years ago.
The Plymouth County Fair Board puts the money toward improvement projects around the fair.
The Fair Auction is Sunday at 4:30 in Pioneer Village. Geri says her quilt is usually the 4th or 5th item.
