MenuMasters Raises $24,000 For School
(Le Mars) -- A tasty and fun evening was celebrated at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds Century Hall Saturday evening as the first MenuMasters event, sponsored by the Le Mars Community Educational Enhancement Project, of LEEP, raised more than $24,000 for the Le Mars Community School District. Close to 500 people enjoyed eating the various food items as prepared by the 32 different chefs from the community. Gail Vonk, the president of LEEP says the first time event was a huge success.
The Le Mars Police Department with chefs Chief Stuart Dekkenga and assisted by Dennis Folkema walked away with most of the event's awards. The police duo took top honors for the "Best Dessert" item, "Best Overall Food" and "Best Theme Display". The police officers prepared "tasty taser bites".
The police department used their special tactical equipment to showcase their cheesecake dessert.
Brenda Phelan serves as the president for the Le Mars Community Board of Education. She says Saturday's innaugaral event will go a long ways to helping fund educational projects at the Le Mars Community School District.
