Thanksgiving Dinner...What Does it Cost for Turkey and the Fixings?
(Le Mars) -- The general cost of your Thanksgiving dinner is up only one percent over last
year- this according to Dave Miller, director of research and commodity services for the
Iowa Farm Bureau.
That dinner includes: turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries
a relish tray of celery and carrots, pumpkin pie with whipped topping, milk and coffee for
10 people equates to $49.48. Last year's cost was $49.20, which went up a large amount from
2010 when the average cost was $43.47 for 10 people.
Miller says the increase this year come primarily from the cost of turkey going up just a
bit due to feed prices rising after the dry summer.
Iowa is third in turkey production in the U.S. and much of the turkey you'll eat as a
northwest Iowa resident, probably came not far from home.
Miller also says to be thankful this year for our ability to have such a bountiful meal
for a reasonable price around the Thanksgiving table.
