MONDAY RESULTS - June 10

(high school softball)

Remsen St. Mary's at Gehlen Catholic - POSTPONED TO JUNE 25th

Le Mars 17, Cherokee 0  --  5 innnings        (RECORD: 15-and-1 / 5-and-0 in Lakes Conf.)

(CHEROKEE) -- After several near misses at a no-hitter this season, senior pitcher Molly Renken finally accomplished the feat, tossing a no-hitter with nine strikeouts against Cherokee Monday night in a 17-0, five inning Le Mars win in a  Lakes Conference softball match-up at Cherokee.  Renken allowed only one base runner, walking the lead-off hitter in the fourth inning to end her bid for a perfect game.  Mary Kate Eckstaine belted a grand slam homer to highlight a six-run fifth inning for the Lady Bulldogs.  Ashley Phelan led a seven-hit attack with two hits and Kassidy Rieken added two RBI's.  Le Mars scored eleven runs in their final two at-bats.  The win improves the Lady Bulldogs record to 15-and-1 and their Lakes Conference-best record to 5-and-0.

Le Mars 10, Cherokee 0  --  5 innings       (RECORD: 8-and-1 / 5-and-0 in Lakes Conf.)

(LE MARS) -- Hunter Rowe and Tyler DeVos teamed up on a five-inning no-hitter for Le Mars Monday night as the Bulldogs beat Cherokee 10-0 in Lakes Conference baseball action at the Bulldog Sports Complex.  Rowe threw the first three innings to earn the win with DeVos closing out the final two innings.  The two combined to strike out seven but also issued seven walks.  The Bulldogs scored four runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.  Dayton Rand, Colan Borchers, Andy Hefner and Kendall Candor each drove in a run in the fourth.  Borchers had two RBI's for the game along with two hits.  Hefner and Jacob Lamoreux also had two hits each as Le Mars finished with eight hits for the game.  The Bulldogs improve to 8-and-1 for the season and 5-and-0 in Lakes Conference play.

TUESDAY RESULTS - June 11

(high school softball)

Le Mars 10, M-O-C/Floyd Valley 0  --  5 innings        (RECORD: 16-and-1)

(LE MARS) -- Senior Molly Renken continues to dominate Siouxland batters Tuesday night with her 11th shutout of the season as Le Mars beat visiting M-O-C/Floyd Valley 10-0.  The victory improves Le Mars to 16-and-1 for the season.  Madison Heidebrink's two-run homer and Emily Pick's two-run single keyed a four-run first inning for the Lady Bulldogs.  The game ended on the ten-run rule in the bottom of the fifth inning when Le Mars scored six times.  Molly Renken's two-run single was the center piece to the inning that also featured two walks, a hit-batsman and two Lady Dutch errors.  Renken finished with a three-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts to improve her record to 13-and-0.

Le Mars 14, M-O-C/Floyd Valley 2  -- 5 innings        (RECORD: 9-and-1)

(LE MARS) -- Jacob Lamoreux led the offense with four hits, including a pair of doubles, and two RBI's and threw a complete-game, five-hitter on the mound to lead Le Mars past M-O-C/Floyd Valley 14-2 in five innings Tuesday night at the Bulldog Sports Complex.  Hunter Rowe added three hits and three RBI's.  Kendall Candor's three-run homer in the fourth inning started a nine-run inning that extended a 5-2 Le Mars lead into a 12-run cushion.  The Bulldogs sent 15 batters to the plate in the fourth and collected six of their 12 hits.  The inning also featured six walks and a hit-batsman.  Lamoreux finished with a five-hitter with five walks and two strike outs.  Le Mars improves to 9-and-1 for the season.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS - June 12

Le Mars 11, Estherville/Lincoln Central 0  --  5 innings           (RECORD: 17-and-1 / 6-and-0 in Lakes)

(game one) Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn 6, Gehlen Catholic 2

(game two) Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn 8, Gehlen Catholic 5           (RECORD: 8-and-10 / 4-and-6 in W-E-C)

(LE MARS) -- Molly Renken turned in a perfect night to lead the number three-rated Le Mars Lady Bulldogs to an 11-0, five-inning Lakes Conference victory over Estherville/Lincoln Central at the Bulldog Sports Complex.  Renken threw her second no-hitter of the week, this time a perfect game as she faced 15 batters and struck out 13 of them.  She also put the first runs on the board with a first inning grand slam, her second home run of the season and the 16th of the season for hard-hitting Lady Bulldogs.  Madison Heidebrink went three-for-three with an RBI and Ashley Phelan and Emily Ellefson drove in two runs each.  Le Mars finished with eleven hits for the game.  The win over the second place Midgets gave the 6-and-0 Lady Bulldogs a two-game Lakes Conference lead and improved their season record to 17-and-1.

(CLEGHORN) -- Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn won both ends of a War Eagle Conference softball doubleheader from Gehlen Catholic Wednesday night in Cleghorn, taking game one 6-2 and game two 8-5.  In the opener, Sarah Dreckman limited the Lady Jays to four hits.  Brittany Krienert took the loss.  In game two, M-M-C erased a 3-2 deficit with a four-run fourth inning and went on to win 8-5.  The Eagles took advantage of eleven walks by three Gehlen pitchers.  Bethany Specht scattered seven hits to pick up the win while Jill Kessenich suffered the loss.  Kessenich had two hits for the Lady Jays offensively.  The losses drop Gehlen Catholic to 8-and-10 for the season and 4-and-6 in the W-E-C.

(LE MARS) -- Andy Hefner had three hits and drove in one of the two runs in a decisive fifth inning for Le Mars and Parker Rolfes threw a two-hitter with eleven strike outs as the Bulldogs improved their league-leading Lakes Conference record to 6-and-0 with a 5-2 win over Estherville/Lincoln Central Wednesday night at the Bulldog Sports Complex.  The two runs in the fifth inning put the Dogs in front 4-0, a lead that the Midgets cut to 4-2 in the sixth.  A run in the bottom of the sixth padded the Le Mars lead.  The Bulldogs are 10-and-1 for the season.

(MARCUS) -- Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn scored an unearned run in the second inning and junior Dylan Speiler made it stand, throwing a one-hitter to pitch the Eagles to a 1-0 War Eagle Conference baseball victory over Gehlen Catholic Wednesday night at Marcus.  Austin Herbst and Michael Whitehead combined on a two-hitter for the Jays.  Gehlen falls to 3-and-7 for the season and 3-and-6 in the War Eagle Conference.

THURSDAY RESULTS - June 13

Gehlen Catholic 7, Spalding Catholic 3      (RECORD: 9-and-10 / 5-and-6 in the War Eagle Conf.)

(GRANVILLE) -- Gehlen Catholic returned to the win column Thursday night with a 7-3 victory over Spalding Catholic in a War Eagle Conference softball match-up in Granville.  Senior Brittany Krienert limited the Lady Spartans to five hits in throwing a complete game.  She walked three and struck out one.  The Lady Jays erased a 2-1 deficit with a six-run fifth inning, helped along by five walks and Abby Freking's three-run double.  Gehlen improves to 9-and-10 for the season and 5-and-6 in the War Eagle Conference.


NOTE: Le Mars Athletic Director Barry Borchers was notified Thursday afternoon by the Iowa Girls Athletic Union that Sioux City North has forfeited the 5-2 win over the Le Mars girls due to the use of an ineligible player, returning the Lady Bulldogs to the status of unbeaten at 18-and-0.  The game will officially go down as a 7-0 Le Mars win.

FRIDAY RESULTS - June 14

(high school baseball)

Gehlen Catholic 6, Spalding Catholic 1               (RECORD: 4-and-7 / 4-and-6 in the War Eagle Conf.)

(GRANVILLE) -- Junior Mitchell Flack threw a two-hitter and senior Michael Whitehead drove in three runs to pace Gehlen Catholic's 6-1 upset of Spalding Catholic Friday night at Vosburg Field in Granville.  The win improves the Jays record to 4-and-7 for the season and 4-and-6 in the War Eagle Conference.  Spalding  falls to 9-and-6 for the season and 6-and-3 in league play.  It was the sixth straight year that Gehlen has beaten the Spartans at Granville.  Whitehead's two-run single keyed a three-run third inning for the Jays and his single in the fifth plated one run and a second run scored on the play when Solomon Freking knocked the ball free from catcher Thomas Stoll's mitt on a play at the plate.  Gehlen took advantage of four Spartan errors to scored six unearned runs.  The Jays backed Flack's pitching performance with two inning-ending double plays, including a game-ending 6-4-3 twin-killing.  Flack induced twelve ground ball outs in the game and recorded four strike outs.
