WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12

1:00 - 5:00 p.m. • The Arts Center

200 Central Avenue SE - “Sittin’ Pretty”

Colorful chairs and tables of all kinds, painted by area artists for this Arts Council fund raiser, are staged for viewing and/or silent auction bids. Also on display are 2013 Ice Cream Days logo entries and the winners for the past 13 years. Local art work for sale. Free admission.

1:00 - 5:00 p.m. • Plymouth County Historical Museum

335 1st Avenue SW - Special display: “100 Years of Wells Enterprises, Inc.” - Keep your cool at the Museum! Step into yesteryear with a refreshing stop for an ice-cold root beer float in the 1940s Miller’s Lunch diner, once a landmark in Le Mars. Check out all five floors of exhibits, including two milk cows. View the new Ag Area and the new Main Street displays. Completely handicap accessible. Free admission.

5:00 p.m. • Tri State Drive In Cruisers at Bob’s Drive Inn

Highway 75 South - Enjoy music from the 50s & 60s provided by a local DJ while strolling through a collection of restored, classic, street-rod, muscle, and cars of all types at Bob’s Drive Inn. Bob’s, a local favorite for over 60 years, is a third generation business that prides itself on fun, great service and delicious food. Free soft serve ice cream cones and cups will be handed out compliments of Bob’s Drive Inn, Dean Foods Le Mars-Land O Lakes and BoDeans Baking Co.

6:40 - 8:40 p.m. • Splash Dance

Le Mars Outdoor Swimming Pool - 300 12th Street SE

Enjoy a fun night at the Le Mars Outdoor Swimming Pool for just $1 per person. The night will be filled with good music and games. Concessions will be available.

7:30 - 9:00 p.m. • Kiwanis/Aktion Club Ice Cream Social

Foster Park, 600 Central Avenue SE

Enjoy a complimentary cool treat before and during the evening concert sponsored by the Le Mars Kiwanis/Aktion Club and Blue Bunny®.

7:45 p.m. • Lions Club “Golf Ball Drop”

1st Avenue SE adjoining Foster Park - See a Lions Club member to purchase a ticket for the “Golf Ball Drop” and then cheer on the golf balls as they race down the street to the finish line. Cash prizes awarded. All proceeds benefit the community.

8:00 p.m. • Le Mars Municipal Band Concert

Foster Park, 600 Central Avenue SE - This fifty piece concert band, made up of professional and area musicians, provides an “old-fashioned” concert in the park for its 107th year. This year’s concert will be sponsored by Wells as part of their 100th birthday celebration. For your comfort, please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on while enjoying this popular family activity.

Meet at the Olson Cultural Event Center for a family bike ride on the Recreation Trail. For riders of all ages. The ride ends at the Primebank Ice Cream Social where you can enjoy a cool treat.

6:00 - 8:00 p.m. • Primebank Ice Cream Social

37 1st Avenue NW - Celebrate with the Primebank staff at their 45th annual Ice Cream Social. Originally an appreciation event for Primebank’s customers, the Ice Cream Social is now not only an Ice Cream Days tradition, but one of its most popular events where typically over 1,200 people enjoy an evening of fun for the entire family. With live music, a ferris wheel and mini-train for kids, and plenty of free ice cream sundaes and cones to go around. The 45th annual Primebank Ice Cream Social will be a sweet treat for everyone!

9:00 p.m. • Outdoor Movie

Olson Cultural Event Center, 33 1st Street NE

Beginning at dusk, join your family, friends and neighbors for a great family movie sponsored by American Bank. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Sweet treats are compliments of Blue Bunny®.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 14

9:00 a.m. • City of Le Mars YMCA 18th Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament - 1st Avenue SW & 1st Avenue NW

Join a team of 3 to 4 players and participate in the 18th Annual YMCA 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Entry fee is $20 per player. Pre-registration is required by June 6. Age groups (male and female divisions in each group) are 8 & under, 10 & under, 12 & under, 14 & under and 16 & under. Entry form is available at www.lemarsiowa. com.

2:00 p.m. • Smile Contest & Ice Cream Social

Good Samaritan Society - Le Mars, 1140 Lincoln Street NE

Join Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars as they host the 6th annual Smile Contest. Children ages 4-7 may register from 2:00-2:30 p.m. Judging begins promptly at 2:30 p.m. An ice cream social for participants and family members will immediately follow the announcement of the winners. Prizes for all participants.

3:30 - 6:00 p.m. • Wells “Birthday Bash”

100 block of 1st Avenue NW (adjacent to Olson Cultural Event Center)

Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Wells at our Ice Cream Birthday Bash! Have fun in the bounce house, create your own birthday party hats and enjoy live entertainment courtesy of a magician and puppet show. Come join in the fun and have birthday ice cream treats!

5:00 - 6:30 p.m. • Taste of Wells

Central Avenue North, parking lot between Bamboo Village & Guest House - What’s a 100th birthday party without a little ice cream? This event will showcase a variety of products manufactured by Wells Enterprises. Inc. that you may not see locally or may have missed in your local freezer case. Enjoy some samples while you learn more about the products.

5:30 - 6:45 p.m. • Old Band Wallace Concert

Central Avenue North, on street in front of the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor - What started around a campfire is now one of Kansas City’s most requested party bands. Old Band Wallace

brings its ever-changing mix of rock, pop, country, ska and reggae for audiences of all ages to Le Mars to enhance the Wells 100th birthday party downtown events.

7:00-8:15 p.m. • Tonic Sol-fa Concert

Central Avenue North, on street in front of the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor - Celebrate Wells’ 100th Anniversary with Tonic Sol-fa! Recognized as one of the nation’s top vocal groups and having earned a place in the Midwest Music Hall of Fame, Tonic Sol-fa brings their musical energy and talents in an encore performance on Central Avenue North. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and settle in for an evening of great music and fun with Wells and Tonic Sol-fa!

8:30 - 10:00 p.m. • BMX/Motorcycle Stunt Team

Olson Cultural Event Center, 33 1st Street NE

We have booked action sports team Real Encounter as our headline act again this year. They are bringing an ALL NEW SHOW, including an Illusionist! This is a family friendly event intended to entertain and inspire all ages. Vending onsite; includes nachos, hot dogs, snow cones, popcorn, pop and water. No admission fee. Bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather tune in to KLEM Radio. Sponsored by the Le Mars Area Youth Network.

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 15

9:00 a.m. • Grill ‘n’ Chill Rib Rally - Judging at 5:00 p.m.

Olson Cultural Event Center, 33 1st Street NE

Looking to show off your B-B-Qing skills? Come join us at the Olson Cultural Event Center for the annual Ice Cream Days Rib Cook-off. Preparations begin at 9:00 a.m. and judging will begin at 5:00 p.m. There will be two separate categories again this year: gas/electric and wood/charcoal. Entry fee is $25 with 100% payback. If you are not interested in being in the competition come on down and join in the festivities. Take in the sights, smells and sounds of the varied ways of preparing smoked meats as racks and racks of ribs are cooked. Kirk’s BBQ will have food and beverage available. 9:00 a.m. • Ice Cream Days Parade

Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy one of the best parades in Northwest Iowa. This year’s parade will include favorites such as the Su Fu Du Drumline, Gehlen Catholic marching band, The Tractor Train, Shrine units, White Horse Mounted Patrol sponsored by Wells Enterprises, Inc. and much more. The parade will line up at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds and move west on 6th Street NE to Central Avenue, turn south and proceed through downtown, past Foster Park and end at 8th Street South. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. • Art in the Park

Foster Park, 600 Central Avenue SE - See thousands of your friends at Foster Park and artists, crafters and professional vendors too! Great food, fun and entertainment for all ages. Vendors in Foster Park will offer everything from professional art to crafts, purses to gift items. Entry form available at www.lemarsiowa.com

Following the parade • Foster Park, 600 Central Avenue SE

Su Fu Du Drumline - Be entertained by Su Fu Du Drumline, a select group of percussionists from the Sioux Falls area. Their unique name, Su Fu Du, suggests their special style of percussion and marching. Unlike anything around, their wacky visuals, clean drum beats, and hilarious audibles make them incredibly unique and special. They are an entertaining group that is very skilled, talented, and practiced.

Following the parade until 1:00 p.m. • Scoops of Fun - Kids Production Area - Foster Park, 600 Central Avenue SE

Kids are welcome to be creative and take home Ice Cream Days fun by working with The Education Station and participating in a “Canvas Splash and Dash” sponsored by the Le Mars Arts Center.

Also this year, following the parade until 1:00 p.m.

Foster Park, 600 Central Avenue SE - Look for the Land O Lakes Little Red Barn and Deana the Cow where Land O Lake’s chocolate milk will be handed out. Deana the Cow will be there to meet, greet and take pictures with you. You can also get a “GOT MILK” cheek tattoo and learn more fun milk facts.

1:00 - 4:00 p.m. • Foster Park in the Gazebo - 600 Central Avenue SE

1:00 p.m. on stage will be the Not Yet Famous Bassoon Band, then at 2:00 p.m. hear Andy Juhl, original acoustic folk music and at 3:00 p.m. Le Mars Flute Choir.

9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. • Town and Country Toy Show & Auction

Plymouth County Fairgrounds, 500 4th Avenue NE

Toy Show & Auction sponsored by the Town and Country Toy Club. Both events will have farm toys, NASCAR, semi trucks, memorabilia, etc. Toy Show 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. followed by Toy Auction at 5:00 p.m. Free admission. 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. • Disc Golf Tournament

West Floyd Disc Golf Course, very west end of 3rd St. SW

Everyone is welcome to attend the Ice Cream Days Disc Golf Tournament. Located at the new 18 hole West Floyd Disc Golf Course next to the West Floyd Park. Try your hand in the tournament or come get familiar with the ever growing sport of disc golf. Three divisions will be offered; Youth ($10), Amateur ($10), and Advanced ($15). Cash payouts, prizes and trophies will be given. Registration will be on site the day of from 10:00-10:45 a.m. with tee-off starting at 11:00 a.m. Discs will also be available for sale on site. Free ice cream treats available, compliments of Blue Bunny®. Tournament hosted by the Le Mars Disc Golf Club. More information is available at www.lemarsdiscgolf.com.

11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. • Le Mars Historic Preservation Tour Tours begin at the Art Center, 200 Central Avenue SE

The best way to learn about downtown Le Mars architecture is to take a guided tour. The Le Mars Historic Preservation Commission will have experienced, trained tour guides who will provide an educational tour about the architectural elements that are displayed in downtown Le Mars. You’ll view finials, dentals, corinthyn and ionic columns, gables, lintels and pilasters.

1:00 - 3:00 p.m. • R/C Airplane & Helicopter and R/C Fun Fly North of the Airport on Holton Drive - Entertainment for the whole family! Come watch local flyers exhibit their skills with various airplanes and helicopters. If you’re 13 years or older you can experience the fun of flying a remote controlled airplane. No admission fee. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the aerial entertainment. Sweet treats are compliments of Blue Bunny®.

1:00 p.m. • Bike Central’s Summer Cross

Le Mars Municipal Park - Bike Central is again hosting a warm weather cyclocross race for cyclists’ missing the cooler cyclocross season and for those that have been watching our cyclocross races and have been dying to try it. A 1.5 mile course that is spectator friendly and offers challenges to all riders wanting to experience off road cycling. Beginner races start at 1:00 p.m. with advanced riders starting at 2:30 p.m. A kids race will take place between the two adult races. Prizes are awarded to place winners. Come check out the latest fashions for the season! Your friends at Maurices will be hosting a fashion show to help you look and feel your very best. We will be showing off our fabulous style for sizes 0-24. Come and experience the latest trends.

2:00 p.m. • Ice Cream Flavor Creation

Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor, 115 Central Avenue NW

Immediately following the Style Show, show off your creativity in the Ice Cream Flavor Creation contest for people age 16 and older. Prizes for three finalists; including a trophy for the grand prize winner. Sponsored by First National Bank and Blue Bunny®. 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. • Fishing Derby

Le Mars Municipal Park Pond - Children 12 and under can join the Le Mars Sportsman’s Club for an evening of fishing. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m.; children may fish from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by the awarding of prizes. Refreshments for participants and their families will be offered.

8:30 p.m. -10:30 p.m. • Wells Birthday Light Up the Sky

Plymouth County Fairgrounds - Horses… Music… Fireworks! What could be more fun than spending an evening at the Grandstand enjoying free ice cream, watching a thrilling performance of the White Horse Mounted Patrol, listening to toe-tapping sounds of the Siouxland Barbershop Quartet, and being dazzled with a spectacular fireworks display in honor of Wells’ 100th birthday!
