TUESDAY RESULTS – June 1

Gehlen (3-1/3-1) 8 Granville Spalding 5

Le Mars at Sergeant Bluff-Luton - postponed

(LE MARS) -- Phil Frye and Michael Lemoreaux led an eleven-hit attack with three hits each with Lemoreaux driving in a pair of runs to lead Gehlen to an 8-5 victory over Spalding in a War Eagle Conference game that was moved to Le Mars Monday due to a wet diamond in Granville.  Aaron Schlesser got the win on the mound with a complete game effort.  The Jays built a 6-1 lead after three innings before the Spartans rallied to within 6-5.

Sioux Central at Le Mars - ppd.

(GRANVILLE) -- Gehlen rallied to beat Spalding 5-2 Tuesday night in Granville, despite stranding 15 base runners.  The Lady Jays rapped out 14 hits but left the bases loaded three times and left runners stranded at second and third twice at the end of an inning.  Sarah Jentz broke a 2-all tie with a RBI-single in the fourth and RBI's by Steph Rohe and Lexi Wiltgen in the seventh added some insurance.  Wiltgen threw a three-hitter with one walk and three strike outs.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS – June 2

Hinton 5 Gehlen (3-2/3-2)

Estherville/Lincoln Central 14 Le Mars 6, 9 innings

(HINTON) -- Adam Struve threw a two-hit shutout and struck out ten to pitch Hinton to a 5-0 War Eagle Conference baseball win over Gehlen Wednesday night in Hinton.  The Blackhawks bunched four runs and six hits into the fourth inning.  Zach Wurth's triple and Devon Groenhagen's infield single were the Jays lone hits.

(LE MARS) -- Estherville/Lincoln Central erupted for eight runs in the ninth inning and beat Le Mars 14-6 Wednesday night in the Lakes Conference opener for both schools.  Tanner Dowling had three hits and a RBI for the Bulldogs.

(HINTON) -- Lexi Wiltgen twirled a five-hitter as Gehlen edged Hinton 3-2 Wednesday night in War Eagle Conference softball action at Hinton.  The victory was the third straight for the Lady Jays.  Jess Timmins had a pair of hits to lead Gehlen offensively and Steph Rohe drove in a run.

(LE MARS) -- Estherville/Lincoln Central spoiled the Lakes Conference softball opener for Le Mars by taking a 4-3 decision from the Lady Bulldogs wednesday.  Kirstie Ruhland accounted for all three Le Mars runs with a two-run homer in the fourth and a RBI-double in the sixth.

STATE TOURNAMENT at Adel
(1A) Grundy Center won the team title with Hinton finishing fifth
HINTON SCORES:  Emily Knop 184, Katie Clausen 192, Sierra Hazenkamp 203, Morgan Mehrer 208, Shelby Dittmer 229, and Bre Von Heeder 234.

(2A) Kuemper won the team title with Emmetsburg finishing third

(3A) Clear Lake won the team title with M-O-C/Floyd Valley tying for fourth.

 

 

THURSDAY RESULTS – June 3

(high school girls tennis)

Le Mars’ Natalie Miller lost 1-6, 0-6 to Kristy Carr of Ballard in the championship bracket of the 1A State Singles Tournament at Iowa City.  In the consolation bracket, Miller beat Shelby Smith of Aplington-Parkersburg 6-2, 6-3 and then beat Chelsey Peterson of Harlan 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the consolation semifinals.

(HULL) -- Abby Horstman checked Le Mars to five hits and struck out seven and also added a two-run double in the first inning to lead Western Christian to a 6-1 Lakes Conference victory Thursday night.  The game was stopped in the top of the seventh by lightning.  Emily Anderson had three hits for Le Mars.

FRIDAY RESULTS – June 4

(girls Tennis)

Le Mars’ senior Natalie Miller wrapped up play in the 1A State Singles Tournament at Iowa City with an eighth place finish.  Miller lost 2-6, 1-6 to Celia Morton of Dubuque Wahlert in the consolation semifinals and then lost 1-6, 1-6 to Jayln Deering of Camanche in the seventh/eighth place match.  Miller went 2-and-3 in the two-day State meet.

(SIOUX CITY) -- Le Mars returned to the win column with a 14-0 pounding of Kingsley-Pierson in the opening round of the Sioux City West Earlybird Tournament Friday afternoon.  The Lady Bulldogs collected eleven hits with Bailey Heidebrink and Kelby Klein getting three each.  Klein drove in five runs.  Emily Ellefson belted a three-run home run in the first inning to jump-start the offense.  Ellefson finished with two hits and four RBI's.

In the second game of the day, Westwood roughed up Jordan Heidebrink for nine hits in a 9-2 win over the Lady Bulldogs.  Heidebrink did, however, collect three hits at the plate to lead the offense.

(LE MARS) -- 13th-ranked Remsen St. Mary's used eleven hits and took advantage of eight walks and eight Gehlen errors to win their sixth in a row, 14-3 Friday night in War Eagle Conference softball action at the Riverview Complex.  Anyssa Trejo had three RBI's for the Hawks and Emma Krier scored four times.  The loss stops a three-game winning streak by Gehlen.

(SIOUX CITY) -- Le Mars won the title at the Sioux City West Earlybird Tournament Saturday with a 6-1 win over Westwood.  The win avenged a 9-2 loss to the Rebels on Friday.  Jordan Heidebrink threw a three-hitter against Westwood after getting roughed up for nine hits against the same lineup in Friday's loss.  Emily Ellefson had four RBI's in the 12-2 win over Hinton earlier in the day and finished the tournament with seven hits and nine RBI's and was named captain of the all-tournament team.  Emily Anderson and Kelby Klein were also named to the all-tournament squad.

(CARROLL) -- Gehlen finished third at the C-Y-O softball tournament Saturday in Carroll.  The Lady Jays opened play with a 10-6 win over Storm Lake St. Mary's.  Gehlen had ten hits in that game with Shannon Smith, Sarah Jentz, Kaitlin Langel and Lexi Wiltgen getting two each.  Langel hit her first career home run.  Number-two ranked Bishop Heelan then beat the Lady Jays 10-0 in the semifinals.  Abby Freking's RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh inning of the third place game gave Gehlen a 2-1 win over Fort Dodge St. Edmond.  Steph Rohe was named to the all-tournament team.

C-Y-O TOURNAMENT at Carroll
Fort Dodge St. Edmond 6 Gehlen (3-4)

(CARROLL) -- Defending 2A State Champion Fort Dodge St. Edmond beat Gehlen 6-1 Saturday in the opening round of the C-Y-O Tournament at Carroll.  The Jays were limited to one hit in the game.

SUNDAY RESULTS – June 6

C-Y-O TOURNAMENT at Carroll

(5th place game) Gehlen (6-4) 12 Granville Spalding 4, 6 innings

(CARROLL) -- Gehlen won a pair of games to close out play in the C-Y-O Tournament Sunday in Carroll and finished fifth.  The Jays opened play Sunday morning with an 11-1 win over Storm Lake St. Mary's in five innings.  Eighth-grader Blake Wiltgen threw a complete-game four-hitter for the Jays.  Gehlen scored all eleven runs in the 5th inning.  Gehlen took fifth place with a 12-4 victory against Granville Spalding on Devon Groenhagen's four-hit, complete game.  Mitch Christoffel had two doubles and drove in three runs and Groenhagen had two hits and two RBI's.
