Still Early To Worry About Fieldwork
(Le Mars) -- The calendar may indicate to farmers that its time to start spring field work, however, cool conditions still exist. Iowa State University extension crops specialist, Joel DeJong says farmers should not worry about getting into the fields just yet.
DeJong says he has noticed several farmers applying anhydrous ammonia, or spreading manure on the fields, in preparation for tillage.
DeJong believes fields are still generally too wet to do much tillage. He cautions farmers to wait for warmer weather, so to not have soil compaction.
