Clovis Speaks In Le Mars - Confident Of His Chances
(Le Mars) -- Republican U-S Senate Candidate Sam Clovis came back home to Plymouth County last evening when he spoke before 65 supporters. Clovis made an appearance at the Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor in Le Mars and spoke confidently of his chances of winning the nomination. In order to win the candidacy and to go against Democratic contender Bruce Braley in the November general election, a candidate must win at least 35 percent of the vote.
The Morningside College professor and former radio talk show host believes the election will be determined at the State Republican convention by the voting delegates. Clovis says, if that happens, he feels very good of his chances because the fourth district of Iowa, or the northwest portion of the state, has the most delegates, and Clovis believes those delegates will be voting for him. When asked if because the Democrats don't have a primary election, if he is concerned that some Democrats may cross-over and register Republican in an effort to block Clovis from becoming the candidate, Clovis said he hadn't heard much talk about it, and seemed that it would not be a much of a concern. Jokingly, Clovis says "I don't think it is in their (democrats) DNA to cross-over and vote republican."
