LE MARS -- Molly Renken flirted with a no-hitter before settling on a two-hit shutout as Le Mars won 6-0 over Sheldon to improve to 2-and-0 for the season. Renken had a perfect game through five innings. An error and a walk in the sixth ended the perfect bid and a pair of seventh inning hits halted the no-hit bid. Renken struck out 13. Ashley Phelan had the big blow in the game, drilling a two-run homer to key a four-run fourth inning. Madison Heidebrink also drove in a pair of runs with a sacrifice fly and a single.
LE MARS -- Gehlen Catholic broke through for eight runs in the first inning and took advantage of eleven walks to win their season opener 18-10 over Spalding Catholic in a make-up game at the River View Complex. Gehlen pitchers also issued eleven walks but allowed only six hits. The Lady Jays collected 14 hits with Abby Freking, Jill Kessenich, Carly Bunkers, Emily Pratt and Brittany Krienert getting two each. Kessenich had four RBI's for Gehlen and also earned the pitching win.

ROCK RAPIDS --A nine-run seventh inning turned a 9-2 lead into a rout as Le Mars won their opener over Central Lyon 18-2 Thursday night in Rock Rapids. Dayton Rand had two hits and three RBI's for the Bulldogs with Andy Heffner and Tyler DeVos collected two RBI's each. A 14-hit attack for Le Mars featured five players getting two hits each, Jacob Lamoureax, Hunter Rowe, Kendall Candor, Colan Borchers and Rand. Parker Rolfes threw a complete-game, five-hitter for Le Mars.
LE MARS -- Spalding Catholic took advantage of two errors and a wild pitch to score a pair of eighth inning runs and the Spartans spoiled Gehlen's season opener with a 5-3 victory in a make-up game at the River View Complex. Ryan Stoll scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch before Gehlen's third error of the game allowed an insurance run to cross the plate. Solomon Freking had a two-run double for the Jays but Gehlen stranded eleven base runners. Lucas Hunt and Jarod Steffes had RBI doubles for Spalding. Ryan Stoll was the winning pitcher while Blake Wiltgen took the loss. Both went all eight inning and both had seven strikeouts.

LE MARS -- Senior Molly Renken opened the 2013 summer softball season with a dominant pitching performance, tossing a two-hit shutout with one walk and ten strikeouts as Le Mars beat Sioux City East 8-0 Wednesday night at the Bulldog Complex. Renken allowed a first inning single and another in the seventh for the Black Raiders only hits. Renken also had a RBI single. Kassidy Rieken smacked a two-run homer for the Lady Bulldogs, their first of the 2013 season. Le Mars set a school record with 24 round-trippers in 2012. Mary Kate Eckstaine returned to the line-up with a first inning RBI double. Eckstaine missed all of the 2012 season after under going knee surgery. Holly Schneider led an eight-hit attack with two hits for Le Mars with a RBI. Madison Heidebrink and Janessa Milbrodt also drove in Bulldog runs. Le Mars hosts Sheldon Thursday night.
