(LE MARS) -- Gehlen Catholic closed out their 2011 regular season with a 6-5, eight inning victory over West Sioux Tuesday night at the Riverview Complex.  The Lady Jays scored the winning run in the eighth inning after West Sioux had tied the game in the seventh.  Amber Timmins threw a five-hitter with six walks and eleven strike outs for Gehlen.  Steph Rohe led the offense with three hits and two RBI's.  She also stole two bases.  Abby Freking and Shannon Smith had two hits each for the Lady Jays.  Gehlen takes a 17-and-9 record and four-game winning streak into their Regional tournament opener Thursday night at the Riverview Complex against the winner of Wednesday's tournament opener between Remsen-Union and West Sioux.  The Lady Jays finish 11-and-4 in the War Eagle Conference.

 

(LE MARS) -- Le Mars had six doubles among their 13 hits to back a three-hit shut out from Jordan Heidebrink and the Lady Bulldogs beat Cherokee 12-0 in three innings Tuesday night at the Bulldog Complex.  Le Mars struck for seven runs in the first inning, getting two-run doubles from Emily Ellefson and Mary Kate Eckstaine.  Eckstaine finished with three RBI's.  Jordan Heidebrink's RBI single ended the game with one out in the bottom of the third inning on the mercy rule.  The win was the fifth in a row for the Lady Bulldogs as they win for the 20th time against 12 losses.  Their Lakes Conference record improves to 10-and-3.  Le Mars closes out the regular season Wednesday at Hull in a make-up Lakes Conference game against Western Christian.

(LE MARS) -- Mitch Christoffel threw a five-hit shut out with seven strike outs and also drove in a pair of runs on a couple of hits to help Gehlen Catholic beat West Sioux 5-0 in War Eagle Conference baseball Tuesday night at the Riverview Complex.  The Jays scored four runs in the first inning, collecting seven of their 13 hits in the opening frame.  Michael Whitehead had three hits for Gehlen while Derek Bretey and Mitchell Flack added two hits each.  Gehlen evens their record at 12-and-12 and their W-E-C mark at 8-and-8.

 

(LE MARS) -- Jeremy Bohlke followed up Friday night's three-hit game with another three hits Tuesday night to lead Le Mars to an 11-1, six-inning victory over Cherokee at the Bulldog Complex.  Bohlke capped a five-run second inning with a two-run homer after Eric Havey emptied the bases with a three-run double.  Bohlke added a RBI single in the fifth inning.  Austin Homan led off the third inning with a home run and Jacob Lamoreaux stroked a two-run double to right-center to end the game on the ten-run rule.  Judd Herzberg tossed a two-hitter with one walk and six strike outs.  Le Mars runs their record to 16-and-9 for the season and finish Lakes Conference play with a 12-and-2 mark.

WEDNESDAY RESULTS – July 6

Gehlen Catholic 13 Remsen-Union 5

 

(GLENWOOD) -- Number-two rated Glenwood beat Le Mars 13-5 Wednesday night in non-league baseball action at Glenwood for the Rams second win over the Bulldogs this summer.  Eric Havey had three hits for Le Mars, including two doubles and a RBI.  Jeremy Bohlke, Chris Eckstaine and Hunter Rowe collected two hits each.  Freshman Colin Borchers took loss on the mound, surrendering eight hits and four walks while striking out four.  The Bulldogs drop to 16-and-10 for the season.

 

(LE MARS) -- Blake Wiltgen checked Remsen-Union on five hits and Gehlen Catholic earned a 13-5 War Eagle Conference baseball victory Wednesday night at the Riverview Complex.  A six-run fifth inning helped the Jays pry the game open.  Gehlen bunched thirteen walks with eleven hits.  Blake Wiltgen had three hits and a RBI to pace the Jays offensively.  Mitch Christoffel and Devin Groenhagen had two hits and two RBI's each and Angel Chagolla added two hits.  Gehlen is currently riding a four winning streak to move over the .500 mark for the first time this summer at 13-and-12.  The Jays are 9-and-8 in the W-E-C heading into their regular season finale at Hinton Thursday.

Le Mars 8 Western Christian 0

 

(HULL) -- Le Mars closed the regular season on a six-game winning streak after winning their finale at Hull Wednesday night 8-0 over Western Christian in a make-up Lakes Conference softball match-up.  The game made up the June 22nd rain out.  Jordan Heidebrink and Molly Renken split the pitching chores, throwing three innings each.  Both gave up just two hits and the two combined on seven strike outs.  Renken earned the win.  Ashley Phelan led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with two hits, including a double, and two RBI's.  Jordan Heidebrink had two hits, including a double.  Le Mars had five doubles among their ten hits.  The win moves Le Mars to 21-and-12 for the season and 11-and-3 in Lakes Conference play.

THURSDAY RESULTS – July 7

(HINTON) -- Michael Whitehead struck out eleven and limited Hinton to four hits as the Jays closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win over the Blackhawks down at Hinton Thursday night.  Dylan Kneip and Blake Wiltgen had three hits each to pace the Gehlen hitting attack.  The win improves the Jays to 14-and-12 for the season and they finish at 10-and-8 in the War Eagle Conference.  Gehlen takes a five-game winning streak into the 1A District Tournament opener next Tuesday against Akron-Westfield at Akron.

 

(LE MARS) -- Chris Eckstaine delivered a bases-loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday night to lift Le Mars to a 7-6 win over Sergeant Bluff-Luton at the Bulldog Complex.  Jeremy Bohlke had three hits for the third time in the last four games for Le Mars.  Hunter Rowe added a pair of doubles for the Bulldogs.  Le Mars improves to 17-and-10 for the season.

(LE MARS) -- Gehlen took advantage of seven errors to score six unearned runs and the Lady Jays won their 1A Regional Tournament opener 6-1 over Remsen-Union Thursday night at the Riverview Complex.  Amber Timmins threw a two-hitter for the Jays.  Rachel West had both hits for R-U.  Steph Rohe led a ten-hit Gehlen offensive attack with three hits.  Brittany Loutsch drove in two runs for the Lady Jays.  Gehlen scored four runs in the fourth inning to earse a 1-0 deficit and added two more in the fifth.  Gehlen takes an 18-and-9 record to Cleghorn Friday night to play Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn in the regional quarterfinals at 7 pm.  The game will be carried on KLEM.

(HARLAN) -- Harlan escaped a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning to hold off Le Mars 9-6 Friday night in baseball action at Harlan.  Chris Eckstaine's three-run homer late in the game drew the Bulldogs to within three runs.  Hunter Rowe had three hits, including a RBI triple for Le Mars.  The loss drops Le Mars to 17-and-11 for the season.

(CLEGHORN) -- Eighth grade pinch runner Angeleah Hoefling scored from second base on a one-out single by Stephanie Specht as Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn clipped Gehlen Catholic 3-2 in eleven innings Friday night in the 1A Regional quarterfinals at Cleghorn.  Gehlen tied the game with two runs in the fourth inning an a error and a wild pitch.  M-M-C left runners stranded at third base five times in the game and left the bases loaded in the ninth before finally pushing across the winning run in the eleventh inning.  The Lady Jays end the season at 18-and-10 while the Eagles advance with a 23-and-7 record to Akron Monday night to face top-rated Akron-Westfield in the regional semifinals at 7 pm.

CLASS 3A REGIONAL QUARTERFINALS

(SIOUX CITY) -- Larissa Uhl allowed only four base runners and finished with a three-hit shutout as number-eleven Bishop Heelan dropped Le Mars from the tournament trail 2-0 in the 3A Regional quarterfinals Saturday night at the SYA Complex in Riverside.  Both runs for the Crusaders crossed the plate in the fourth inning.  Makayla Augustine and Kristina Neumann hit back-to-back, two-out RBI singles to break-up a scoreless pitcher's duel.  Uhl walked one batter while striking out eight.  Le Mars' Jordan Heidebrink threw a five-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts.  The Lady Bulldogs close out the season at 21-and-13.
