ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Dan Haren's career-long 10-game winless streak is over as last night he scattered five hits over seven innings in the Angels' 3-1 victory over Kansas City. Haren won for the first time since coming to the Angels in a trade with St. Louis on July 25.
BEREA, Ohio (AP) Cleveland Browns starting inside linebacker D'Qwell Jackson left yesterday's practice with an undisclosed injury. Jackson, who missed the final 10 games last season with a torn pectoral muscle, walked dejectedly off the field during the evening session and favored his right side as he tried to open a door to the locker room.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) Over 77,000 fans were on hand at New Meadowlands Stadium as Brazil blanked the United States 2-0 in a high-profile soccer exhibition. Neymar and Alexandre Pato scored for Brazil, which beat the U.S. for the 15th time in 16 meetings.
TORONTO (AP) Roger Federer beat pesky Argentine challenger Juan Ignacio Chela (ihg-NAH'-see-oh CHAY'-lah) 7-6 6-3 in his opening match at the Rogers Cup Tuesday night. The third-ranked Swiss star was playing his first match since losing in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
