MONDAY RESULTS - June 11

(softball)

Le Mars (15-4/5-0) 13 Cherokee 3, six innings

(LE MARS) -- Le Mars built a 6-0 lead after three innings and then broke the game wide open with a five-run fifth and went onto beat Cherokee 13-3 in six innings Monday night in Lakes Conference softball play at the Bulldog Complex.  Emily Ellefson, Madison Heidebrink and Molly Renken had RBI hits in the first inning and Janessa Milbrodt had a two-run single in the third.  Cherokee cut the Bulldog lead to 6-3 before Ashley Phelan's three-run double keyed the five-run fifth inning and Le Mars added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to stop the game on the ten-run rule.  Molly Renken threw a five-hitter with nine strike outs.  The victory improve the Le Mars record to 15-and-4 for the season and 5-and-0 in the Lakes Conference.

Bishop Heelan 7 Gehlen Catholic (11-7) 0

(SIOUX CITY) -- Larissa Uhl threw a four-hit shutout and struck out seven to pitch Bishop Heelan to a 7-0 whitewashing of Gehlen Catholic in a non-conference softball match-up in Sioux City Monday.  The loss drops Gehlen to 11-and-7 for the season.  Steph Rohe had two of Gehlen's four hits.  The Crusaders collected ten hits off Amber Timmins with Krissy Neumann and Alli Martin getting two hits each  Maddie Heaton had three RBI's for Heelan.

Le Mars (10-0/5-0) 18 Cherokee 8, five innings

(LE MARS) -- Conner Delfs belted a grand slam and Kendall Candor added a two-run homer to key an eleven-run first inning for Le Mars and the Bulldogs beat Cherokee 18-8 in a five-inning in Lakes Conference baseball action at the Bulldog Complex Monday night.  The victory keeps the Dogs unbeaten at 10-and-0 for the season and 5-and-0 in league play.  Every batter in the Le Mars line-up had a hit as the Bulldogs tagged three Cherokee pitchers for 17 hits.  Kendall Candor and Conner Delfs had three hits each and Delfs and Andy Hefner had four RBI's apiece.  Jacob Lamoreaux earned the win in relief, throwing three and a-third innings of shutout relief after starter Austin Sitzmann surrendered eight runs in the first two innings.  Sitzmann gave up just three hits but five walks, two wild pitches and two balks ended his night early.

TUESDAY RESULTS - June 12

Le Mars (16-4) 5 M-O-C/Floyd Valley 1

(ORANGE CITY) -- Le Mars improved to 16-and-4 for the season with their 13th win in their last 14 games Tuesday night, beating M-O-C/Floyd Valley 5-1 in Orange City in non-conference softball action.  Emily Pick drove in two runs with a single to key a four-run second inning and Le Mars never trailed.  Madison Heidebrink had two of the Lady Bulldogs six hits and drove in a run in the fifth.  Molly Renken and Janessa Milbrodt combined on a two-hitter for Le Mars with 12 strike outs.

 

Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn 4 Gehlen Catholic (11-8/4-4) 1

(CLEGHORN) -- Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn struck for three unearned runs in the third inning and Kayla Foresman took it from there, tossing a five-hitter to guide the Eagles past Gehlen Catholic 4-1 in War Eagle Conference softball action at Cleghorn Tuesday night.  The win avenged a 5-4 loss to Gehlen last week in Le Mars.  Erica Dreckman and Kayla Foresman had two hits each for M-M-C.  Gehlen had no batters with multiple hits.   Brittany Krienert drove in the Lady Jays lone run with a RBI single in the seventh to avoid a shutout.  Amber Timmins took the loss, tossing a five-hitter with one walk and five strike outs.  The Lady Jays fall to 11-and-8 for the season and 4-and-4 in the W-E-C.

(ORANGE CITY) -- Hunter Rowe and Levi TeBrink combined on a two-hitter and were backed by a 16-hit attack as Le Mars improved to 11-and-0 with a 12-4 victory over M-O-C/Floyd Valley in Tuesday night non-conference baseball action in Orange City.  Parker Rolfes had a double and a triple among his team-best four hits and drove in two runs.  Kendall Candor homered for the third straight game and had three hits with three RBI's.  Conner Delfs and Colin Borchers also drove in two runs each for Le Mars.  The Bulldogs built a 10-0 lead before the Dutch avoided the ten-run rule with a four-run fifth.

Le Mars at Estherville/Lincoln Central - POSTPONED

(game one) Gehlen Catholic (12-8/5-4) 6 West Sioux 0   ...   (game two) Gehlen Catholic (13-8/6-4) 11 West Sioux 1, five innings

(LE MARS) -- Pitching carried Gehlen Catholic to a War Eagle Conference doubleheader sweep of West Sioux Wednesday night at the Riverview Complex.  Amber Timmins threw a no-hitter in game-one as Gehlen beat the Falcons 6-0.  Timmins walked one and hit one while striking out four.  Alison Schnepf's two-run single keyed a three-run third inning for the Lady Jays.  Schnepf finished with two hits as did Amber Timmins and Abby Freking.  In game-two, Alison Schnepf tossed a two-hitter with no walks and one strikeout as Gehlen beat West Sioux 11-1 in five innings on the ten-run rule.  Schnepf also had two hits and three RBI's at the plate.  Lisa Gunter had two hits and three RBI's for the Lady Jays.  Gehlen improves to 6-and-4 in the War Eagle Conference and 13-and-8 for the season heading into a Thursday night match-up with Hinton at the Riverview Complex.

Le Mars at Estherville/Lincoln Central - POSTPONED TO JULY 2nd AS PART OF A VARSITY DOUBLEHEADER IN LE MARS

West Sioux 11 Gehlen Catholic (3-8/3-6) 5

(LE MARS) -- West Sioux took advantage of eleven walks and two hit-batsman to outscore Gehlen Catholic 11-5 Wednesday night in War Eagle Conference baseball action at the Riverview Complex.  Gehlen outhit the visitors 11-to-6 but couldn't overcome all the free passes.  Blake Wiltgen, the first of three Gehlen pitchers took the loss.  Zach Wurth, Dylan Kneip and Solomon Freking had two hits each for the Jays.  The loss halts a three-game winning streak and drops Gehlen to 3-and-8 for the season and 3-and-6 in the W-E-C.  The Jays host Hinton Friday.  The game will be carried on KLEM.

THURSDAY RESULTS - June 14

(LE MARS) -- Amber Timmins worked out of a seventh inning jam, getting a fielders choice grounder to end the game with two runners on base as Gehlen Catholic held on for a 3-2 victory over Hinton Thursday night in War Eagle Conference softball action at the Riverview Complex.  The Blackhawks scored a run in the fifth and a run in the seventh to whittle a 3-0 deficit to one.  The Lady Jays took advantage of two Blackhawk errors to score two first inning runs and added what proved to be the decisive run in the third on Lisa Gunter's first career home run.  It was one of only three hits Gehlen got off Hinton pitcher Emily Eaton.  Timmins scattered seven hits and struck out five to get the win.  Gehlen improves to 14-and-8 for the season and 7-and-4 in the W-E-C.  The Lady Jays are off now until Monday when they travel to Remsen to play #15-Remsen-Union.  The varsity game will be carried on KLEM.

(ELK POINT) -- Number-nine (3A) Le Mars suffered their first two losses of the season Friday night at the C-N-O-S Classic in Elk Point.  Top-rated (3A) Bishop Heelan handed the Bulldogs their first loss 12-6 while Sioux City East dealt the Bulldogs a 6-2 setback.  Heelan pounded out 17 hits and slugged three two-run homers as the Crusaders improve to 18-and-5 for the season.  Kendall Candor had three hits for Le Mars and Parker Rolfes slugged a home run.  In the loss to East, Jake Westphal checked the hard-hitting Bulldogs to four hits.  Hayden Godfrey had a two-run homer for the Black Raiders.  The East win avenged a May 26th loss to Le Mars.  The Bulldogs return to action Monday with a Lakes Conference varsity doubleheader against Western Christian at the Bulldog Complex.

Gehlen Catholic ((4-8/4-6) 4 Hinton (7-8/4-6) 0

(LE MARS) -- Eric Oetken allowed only three base runners and tossed a two-hitter in pitching Gehlen Catholic to a 4-0 War Eagle Conference baseball win over Hinton Friday night at the Riverview Complex.  Dalton Becker had both Hinton hits .. a double in the second and a single in the fifth inning.  Otherwise Oetken walked lead-off hitter Seth Butler to begin the game for the only other base runner for the Blackhawks.  The Jays played errorless baseball behind their senior left hander.  Michael Whitehead's RBI single in the third inning put Gehlen on top 1-0.  The Jays added three unearned runs in the fourth on two Hinton errors and doubles by Blake Wiltgen and Austin Herbst.  Herbst's double brought in two runs.  Freshman Logan Jurgensmierer took the loss, scattering seven hits with no walks and two strikeouts.  Whitehead and Herbst had two hits each for Gehlen.  The Jays improve to 4-and-8 for the season and 4-and-6 in the War Eagle Conference.  Hinton falls to 7-and-8 for the season and 4-and-6 in the W-E-C.

(AKRON) -- The 14th-rated (4A) Le Mars Lady Bulldogs added two more wins to won-loss column Saturday with a 4-0 victory over number-15 (4A) Sergeant Bluff-Luton and a 12-5 win over Sioux Central at the Akron-Westfield Classic.  Molly Renken tossed a three-hitter to shutout Sergeant Bluff-Luton for the second time in a week.  Le Mars beat S-B-L 10-0 last weekend in the Lady Bulldog Classic.  Kylee Lang and Emily Pick delivered two-run singles to account for the four Le Mars runs.  In the 12-5 win over Sioux Central, Le Mars pounded out 12 hits, getting three each from Madison Heidebrink and Janessa Milbrodt.  Both drove in two runs.  The Lady Bulldogs trailed 4-3 after two innings before the bats got rolling to score nine runs in the final three innings in a game shortened to five innings by the time limit.  Holly Schneider's RBI triple started Le Mars six-run fifth inning that blew the game wide open.  Emily Ellefson, Madison Heidebrink, Molly Renken and Janessa Milbrodt followed with RBI singles as the Lady Bulldogs rattled off six consecutive hits.  Janessa Milbrodt and Molly Renken split the pitching chores against Sioux Central, combining on a three -hitter with five strike outs.  Renken threw three hitless innings of relief to get the win.  Le Mars improves to 18-and-4 for the season with their 15th win in their last 16 games.  Le Mars hosts Western Christian in a varsity doubleheader Monday at 5:30.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley vs. Woodbury Central - cancelled, rain

(LE MARS) -- Kingsley-Pierson got a combined two-hitter from Travis Neumann and Levi Mahrt to beat Gehlen Catholic 5-2 Saturday morning in the first game of the J-Club Tournament at the Riverview Complex.  Michael Whitehead took loss despite surrendering just three hits.  Angel Chagolla and Austin Herbst had Gehlen's hits.  The Jays fall to 4-and-9 for the season.
