(SIOUX CITY) -- Tenth-ranked (3A) Bishop Heelan held off a late-game rally by the Le Mars Lady Bulldogs to take their Memorial Day softball match-up 11-8. The Crusaders scored eight runs in the first inning. Erin Kommes took the loss after getting roughed up for 14 hits and ten earned runs. Kommes, Jordan Heidebrink and Ashley Phelan had two hits and two RBI's each to lead the offense Madison Heidebrink's two-run single in the sixth drew Le Mars to within three runs before the rally was halted by Heelan. Le Mars falls to 1-and-2 with the loss.

1A STATE MEET AT JOHNSTON
Dubuque Wahlert beat Le Mars 5-1 in the semifinals, handing the Bulldogs their first loss in 15 matches. ( In singles play, Mike Ahlers lost 4-6, 7-5, 2-6, Kent Hasselquist lost 4-6, 3-6, Eric Havey lost 2-6, 1-6, Keegan Driggs lost 0-6, 1-6, Kolin Brooks won 6-1, 7-5 and Aaron Ruden lost 5-7, 1-6. The doubles matches were not completed)

Hinton's Katie Clausen shot an 89, Sierra Hazekamp a 91, Emily Knop a 95, Morgan Mehrer a 98, Ashton Moody a 103 and Ali Kallsen a 107. Caitlin Kelhower and Marlee Ericson led West Sioux with 95's.)

Remsen St. Mary’s 5 Gehlen Catholic 1, 9 innings
(LE MARS) -- Remsen St. Mary's erupted for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to snap a 1-all tie and the Hawks beat Gehlen 5-1 in summer softball action at the Riverview Complex Tuesday night. The go-ahead run scored on an error and then Emma Krier unloaded a two-run triple over the right fielder's head for the Hawks. Miranda Staab chased Krier home with a sacrifice fly. Gehlen had tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on Amber Timmins grounder that got through the right side of the St. Mary's infield to drive Steph Rohe home from third. Staab got the win with a three-hitter for the Hawks while Timmins took the loss despite striking out nine. Gehlen falls to 3-and-3 for the season and 1-and-2 in the War Eagle Conference and St. Mary's evens their record at 2-and-2.
(#9-1A) Remsen St. Mary’s 8 Gehlen Catholic 3
(LE MARS) -- Number-nine Remsen St. Mary's scored five runs in the second inning off freshman lefty Blake Wiltgen and the Hawks went on to post an 8-3 War Eagle Conference baseball victory over Gehlen Catholic Tuesday night in Le Mars. The Hawks took advantage of ten walks by two Gehlen pitchers. Billy Steichen, who got the pitching win for St. Mary's, had three hits and Cody Colling collected three hits for the Hawks. Mitch Christoffel led Gehlen's offense with two hits while Angel Changolla drove in a pair of runs. Gehlen is 1-and-2 for the season and in the W-E-C while St. Mary's is 1-and-1.

1A STATE MEET AT ANKENY
Bishop Garrigan won the team title with Hinton finishing second & West Sioux sixth in team play. Individually, Emily Knop and Katie Clausen of Hinton tied for ninth with 177’s, Gehlen’s Mollie Nemmers finished 16th with a two-day total of 183 on rounds of 88/95, Marlee Ericson of West Sioux was 20th with a 186. Courtney Hummel of West Sioux and Hinton’s Morgan Mehrer and Sierra Hazekamp tied for 25th with 189’s, Katie Kelhower of West Sioux shot a 193, Ali Kallsen of Hinton had a 201 and Ashton Moody of Hinton shot a two-day total of 207.
2A STATE MEET AT ANKENY
Pleasantville won the team title with Alta-Aurelia finishing eighth. In indvidual play, Alta-Aurelia’s Jordan Henningson finished fourth, three shots off the lead with a 163. Amanda Raak of Sioux Center was 34th with a 197.
3A STATE MEET AT ADEL
Charles City won the team title with M-O-C/Floyd Valley finishing sixth and Spirit Lake Park seventh. Indvidually, Maureen Owens of Spirit Lake was ninth with a 177 and Jessica Locker of M-O-C.Floyd Valley took 15th with a 181.
4A STATE MEET AT ADEL
Cedar Falls won the team title and Sioux City North's Carlee Oakley finished ninth with a 170.

Gehlen Catholic at Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn - POSTPONED
(ESTHERVILLE) -- Le Mars rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 1-0 deficit and the Lady Bulldogs upset number-ten Estherville/Lincoln Central 4-1 Wednesday night in the Lakes Conference opener for both teams. Ashley Phelan's RBI-triple tied the game and Mary Kate Eckstaine's hit brought Phelan home for the go-ahead run. Eckstaine scored on an error and Emily Ellefson's sac-fly brought home the final run. Jordan Heidebrink threw a four-hitter to get the pitching win as Le Mars improves to 2-and-2 on the season and 1-and-0 in Lakes Conference play.

Gehlen Catholic at Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn - POSTPONED TO JUNE 9th
(ESTHERVILLE) -- Austin Homan had a pair of RBI hits to back a complete game effort on the mound by Judd Herzberg as Le Mars picked up their first win of the season with a 6-3 victory at Estherville/Lincoln Central Wednesday night. E-L-C cut into a 4-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to draw to within one at 4-3. The Bulldogs answered with two more runs in the top of the seventh with Herzberg collecting a RBI single and then scoring on a wild pitch. Herzberg scattered seven hits and struckout eleven batters. Le Mars improves to 1-and-2 for the season and 1-and-0 in the Lakes Conference.

(LE MARS) -- Western Christian turned back a seventh inning threat Thursday night to beat Le Mars 8-6 in Lakes Conference softball action at the Bulldog Complex. The Lady Bulldogs, looking for their second seventh inning rally in as many nights, scored on Ashley Phelan's single and had runners at second and third with one out before Western's Abby Horstman got a strike out and a come-backer to end the threat. Le Mars scored four runs in the third to erase a 3-0 deficit with Jordan Heidebrink's two-run double and RBI singles by Erin Kommes and Phelan giving the Lady Bulldogs their lone lead of the night. Abby Veldman's two-run homer in the fourth put the Wolfpack in front to stay. Horstman added a two-run single in the sixth to extend the lead to 8-5. Le Mars falls to 2-and-3 for the season and 1-and-1 in the Lakes Conference.
(LE MARS) -- Amber Timmins threw a two-hit shutout and struck out 15 to guide Gehlen Catholic past Spalding Cathoilic 3-0 Thursday night in War Eagle Conference softball at the Riverview Complex. Brittany Krienert and Shannon Smith had two hits each. Gehlen improves to 4-and-3 for the season and 2-and-2 in the W-E-C.

(LE MARS) -- Le Mars used a six-run fourth inning to rally from a 2-1 deficit to a 7-2 lead and the Bulldogs held off Western Christian to beat the defending Lakes Conference champion Wolfpack 9-6 Thursday night in baseball play at the Bulldog Complex. A passed ball, a two-run, error, a sacrifice fly by Judd Herzberg and RBI singles by Eric Havey and Jeremy Bohlke provided the fourth inning scoring for Le Mars. Kendall Candor led the Bulldog offense with three hits. Zach Reuter earned the pitching win with Austin Homan collecting a save with two innings of shutout relief. Le Mars improves to 2-and-2 for the season and 2-and-0 in the Lakes Conference.

(SIOUX CITY) -- Le Mars rallied for four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to beat number-three (1A) Hinton 4-2 Friday morning in the Sioux City West Earlybird Tournament. Ashley Phelan tripled home a run in the sixth and then Le Mars added three more runs in the seventh to erase a 2-1 deficit. Molly Renken threw a two-hitter with eight strike outs for Le Mars.
In the second of the day, Le Mars got a three-inning perfect game from Erin Kommes as the Lady Bulldogs beat Kingsley-Pierson 14-0 in three innings. Le Mars had ten hits with Ashley Phelan and Emily Ellefson driving in three runs each. Le Mars is now 4-and-3 for the season.

(LE MARS) -- Spalding was down to their final strike in the top of the seventh inning Friday trailing 5-4 against Gehlen at the Riverview Complex. A wild pitch and an error allowed the Spartans to literally snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for a 6-5 War Eagle Conference victory. Michael Grady dashed home with the tying run on the wild pitch and when the return throw from the backstop to home plate got loose on the infield, a second runner scored from second base with the go-ahead run. Tyler Konz then shut out Gehlen in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win in relief. Gehlen had two runners thrown out at the plate earlier in the game and twice left the bases loaded. Devin Groenhagen drove in three runs for the Jays on a double and single to help Gehlen take a 5-2 lead after four innings. Spalding scored twice in both the sixth and seventh innings to come-from-behind, earning their first win of the season. Gehlen falls to 1-and-3.
(LE MARS) -- Top-rated Glenwood took advantage of four walks and a hit-batsman to score four runs in the seventh inning to escape an upset bid by Le Mars, 8-7. The Bulldogs nearly stole the game back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring twice before leaving the bases loaded. Iowa recruit Trevor Kauffman of Glenwood had a home run and a triple while Judd Herzberg had a pair of doubles for Le Mars. Austin Homan drove in three runs for the Bulldogs. Le Mars falls to 2-and-3 for the season.

(SIOUX CITY) -- Jordan Heidebrink tossed a one-hit shutout and also had two hits with a pair of RBI's to lead Le Mars to a 17-0 win over Sioux City West Saturday at the Sioux City West Earlybird softball tournament. Madison Heidebrink had a pair of triples and drove in two runs and Emily Ellefson had a two-run double.
In the second game of the day, Sioux City East built a 9-0 lead enroute to a 9-4 victory over the Lady Bulldogs. Taylor Michaelson led East with three hits and Emily Keilman had three RBI's. Emily Ellefson had a RBI triple for Le Mars and Erin Kommes drove in a run with a hit. Molly Renken took the loss. The split leaves Le Mars at 5-and-4 for the season.
(CARROLL) -- Gehlen went 1-and-2 Saturday at the C-Y-O softball tournament in Carroll. The Lady Jays opened with a 5-4 win over Fort Dodge St. Edmond as Amber Timmins threw a six-hitter and Bailey Wiltgen collected two hits. Remsen St. Mary's beat Gehlen 3-2 in the semifinals. Abigail Krienert led the offense with three hits while Amber Timmins took the loss in relief of starter Alison Schnepf. Spalding Catholic beat Gehlen 5-2 in the third place game. Amber Timmins was named to the all-tournament team after walking just four batters in 16 innings of pitching. The Lady Jays are now 5-and-5 for the season.

(CARROLL) -- Storm Lake St. Mary's captaloized on six walks to turn back Gehlen Catholic 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the C-Y-O baseball tournament Saturday in Carroll. Freshman Blake Wiltgen limited the Panthers to four hits and struck out five but continues to struggle with control. He has now walked 15 batters in his three starts in the 2011 season. Mitch Christoffel had two of Gehlen's six hits. The Jays take a 1-and-4 record into the consolation semifinals at 1 pm Sunday.

(CARROLL) -- Gehlen finished sixth in this year's C-Y-O tournament in Carroll Sunday, winning over Spalding Catholic 14-6 in nine innings before dropping a 7-5 decision to Remsen St. Mary's. In win over Spalding, the game was almost a carbon copy of Friday night's War Eagle Conference game between the two. The Jays took a 5-2 lead into the seventh inning before the Spartans scored three runs to tie it, leaving the go-ahead run on base. Gehlen then scored nine runs in the ninth inning to win it. Devin Groenhagen pitched all nine innings for Gehlen and also drove in two runs with a pair of hits. Michael Whitehead had three hits and three RBI's for the Jays. Billy Steichen belted a two-run homer run and made a key defensive play in the seventh inning to halt a Gehlen rally as Remsen St. Mary's beat Gehlen Catholic 7-5 in the fifth place game. Steichen's homer in the fifth put the Hawks ahead 5-4. Gehlen tied the game in the sixth inning before St. Mary's scored twice in the sixth inning to decide the outcome. Michael Whitehead took the loss, allowing only six hits but walking seven. Devin Groenhagen had three hits for the Jays. The split Sunday left the Jays at 2-and-5 for the season.
