Gehlen Teacher Receives Bishop's Award
(LeMars) -- A Gehlen Catholic elementary school teacher was selected as one of the four recipients of the prestigeous Bishop's Excellence in Education Award. Steve Shea was surprised when Diocese Superintendant Dan Ryan appeared at a school assembly on Friday afternoon to make the announcement. There are 38 schools within the Sioux City diocese along with over 600 teachers and assistants. Shea has been teaching at Gehlen for 29 years. He says he is honored and humbled by the recognition.
Diocese Superintendant, Dan Ryan explains the selection criteria and why Shea proved to be the natural choice for the honor.
Shea will be one of the guests of honor during the Bishop's Annual Banquet scheduled for Sunday, October 19th at the Sioux City convention center.
