Christie Vilsack Visits Le Mars Before Election
(Le Mars) -- Democratic Congressional candidate Christie Vilsack made a stop in Le Mars this morning (Friday) as part of her Value Common Sense Tour. Vilsack spoke to a handful of supporters at the Plymouth County Democratic headquarters telling them the campaign has been much like a job interview...a very long job interview. Vilsack repeated her promise to be a problem solver and not a partisian fighter.
Vilsack spelled out her three goals, if elected to serve the new 4th district.
Vilsack says that King's comments are often times a bad reflection upon the people of Iowa.
The Democratic contender told the group that recent polls showed a dead heat tie between herself and Steve King the Republican candidate, and she urged everyone to go vote on election day.
Chamber Holiday Dollars Go On Sale Saturday
(Le Mars) -- Chamber holiday dollars will be on sale Saturday morning. This year, the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce is offering a 15 percent discount on Chamber Holiday dollars. People have the option of purchasing up to $1500 in holiday dollars from three different categories. The first category can be used at Hy-Vee, Fareway, or Wal-Mart. The second category is designated for restaurants, and the third category covers Le Mars retail businesses. Mary Reynolds, the Main Street Coordinator with the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce says this promotion has been quite popular in the past, and she suggests people arrive early at the Upper Level of the Le Mars Convention Center.
Reynolds says the Chamber holiday dollars is a way to encourage shoppers to start at Le Mars first.
The Chamber dollars will go on sale beginning at 9:00 a.m.
City Hall Phone Number Missing From Phone Directory
(Le Mars) -- Before you dispose of your old Frontier phone directory, you may want to first write down the telephone number of Le Mars City Hall. The new phone directories that were recently distributed failed to include the listing and telephone number for city hall and many of the city services. City officials say they are aware of the issue and are working with Frontier Phone Company to resolve the issue. By the way...the phone number for Le Mars City Hall is 546-7018.
Marshalltown Robbery Ends With Shooting
MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - Police have released the names of an officer and two suspects in a credit union robbery in Marshalltown that led to a shooting that wounded the officer and one of the
The Lennox Employees Credit Union was robbed Friday morning. The suspects fled and led officers on a short chase.
Police say one of the suspects, Ben Crisantos, fired at Officer Vern Jefferson, hitting him in the leg. Jefferson returned fire, hitting Crisantos in the lower extremities. Jefferson and Crisantos were taken to a Marshalltown hospital. Both were treated and released.
Crisantos is charged with attempted murder. The second suspect, Abel Ramirez, is charged with first-degree robbery. The two Marshalltown men are in the Marshall County jail. It's unclear if they have an attorney.
