#10 Gehlen Catholic Baseball Ups Winning Streak to Six Games Behind Great Run of Pitching

The Gehlen Catholic baseball team rejoined the Class 1A rankings and extended their winning streak to six games on Monday beating Central Lyon 10-1 in Le Mars.

The tenth-ranked Jays rode the continually building confidence of their pitching staff to another win. Brandon Gengler was not scheduled to start the game until about 20 minutes before first pitch. He usually pitches in relief but was called on to start the game on the mound on short notice. He went the distance allowing just one run, five hits and striking out seven batters. Head Coach Loi Kraft says Gengler and the rest of the staff are building confidence by not trying to do too much on the mound.

That confidence has been shown in some unlikely arms throughout this six-game winning streak like Gabe Wiltgen, Jaxten Kramer, and Zayne Weiland. Coach Kraft says they trust that their stuff is good enough and their defense is good enough to be successful.

With 10 runs produced in the win, the Gehlen Catholic bats were cruising as well. The offense got a huge spark out of the three-spot from Carter Kellen who went 2-4 with an impressive four RBIs. Coach Kraft says he never worries when Kellen is at the plate in a big moment.

The Jays improved to 8-1 with the win and have now won six games in a row. Gehlen Catholic’s dugout was really loose and energetic in the win on Monday. Coach Kraft says that needs to continue for the Jays to keep their winning streak afloat.

Gehlen Catholic will be back home on Wednesday for a matchup with South O’Brien.
